No Woman No Cry
Im teaching my Year 9’s how to play “No Woman No Cry” by the late, great Bob Marley. When I introduce the song we talk about what the title actually means. There is alot of debate about its exact meaning but yesterday a student said that his dad had told him it was about when the queen of englands rule of jamaica came to an end. I looked it up and found a single quote on a blog page soewhere….
“‘No Woman,No Cry’ is a reference to Englands prior control of Jamaica. “Woman” is a reference to the Queen of England. They used to protest in Trench Town all night long against England. A purely political song.”
Mmmmm….any other ideas?
Uum…There seems to be quite a debate over the meaning of that song. Maybe you could ask on Bob Marley’s official website: “It’s simple: Just email AskBobMarley.com@website.bobmarley.com, include your first name and hometown or country and the question you’d like to have answered. Submit questions as often as you like, and every two weeks, Marley family members, friends, contemporaries and experts will reply to the best of the bunch.”
