Broken English
One of my friends is an English teacher, and every year she gets to review and grade high-school students written tests for the “baccalauréat”, the French high-school final exam.
She sent me today the “best” submission she got this year. This was not written by one of her students, and fortunately not all of them are this bad in English, but even though this is quite shameful, I couldn’t resist to share it.

Context : In the text submitted to the students for this “written English comprehension” exam, the main character has to go to Kenya to help fight illiteracy. For this test, students were asked to imagine a letter written by this character to his friends Devi and Chris who live in New York, after he has spent a few weeks in Kenya.
« Hello my friend,
I have a cool experience in Kenya. I have taken of photography, more photo in the savane.
I view more d’elephant, lion, monkey…
This country is beautiful, the people smilling, they are happy view of stranger.
I am go on the Kenya mountain with Devi.
Chris don’t go with we because he is death. Yes he’s death, a lion have hungry. I have killing the lion with my rifle but Chris were death.
After the drame, I have eating a ice cream at the glory of Chris because my brother loved the ice cream.
Two days after.
After the mountains I visite the capital. Their beautiful, I love your tradition of their tribe. I am happy of my expedition.
Domage that Chris is death. Mom have her heart hurt, but it’s the life.
I don’t think at Chris.
For conclude, the Kenya is a country at visited. »
